A Sermon on Psalm 118

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. Let
Israel, the house of Aaron, and those who fear the LORD say ‘His mercy endures forever. When in a narrow place I cried to the LORD, he answered me in a spacious place. The LORD is with me. I will not fear. What can man do to me?
The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man or princes…All the nations surrounded me, they surrounded me on every side, they were like bees swarming around me, but I cut them off in the name of the LORD. You pushed me back to fall, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my refuge, he will be salvation for me. I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. The LORD disciplined me severely, but didn’t give me over to death. I will give you thanks because you answered me. And you will be for me salvation. The stone the builders refused, it is the cornerstone. The LORD did this and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Hosanna. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. The LORD Is God and has caused his light to shine on us, bind the festival with boughs up to the horns of the altar. You are my God and I give you thanks. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever.
